The literary community says that good historical fiction tells more than what happened. It should inject the the reader into a different time and location to show how history actually felt. That is a worthy goal I try very hard to meet.  

I wrote my first novel, Omaha Gold, to educate high school students about Abraham Lincoln's transcontinental railroad, Union Pacific. Schools adopted the book by the box, but the surprise came when adults became the primary audience.  

My latest book, Before He Became a Monster, is about Charles Manson's boyhood years. A related short story prequel, The Homecoming Train, is an eye opener on its own. I think you will enjoy them.
